Role Overview:

To support AMEC’s growth, the Montreal office is currently seeking a Resident Engineer to provide technical support, strategic direction and operational improvements to projects.  The Resident Engineer will report to the Construction Team Lead, and play a key role in the organization.  He/she will interface with internal and external clients, identify risk areas, and recommend mitigation plans.

Key Responsibilities: 

Provide technical supervision of all construction activities of the      project, and ensure compliance to all plans and specifications and identify all errors;

Evaluate, select, and adapt construction management and control      techniques, procedures, and criteria to suit job tasks;

Manage quality control staff, implement proactive problem-solving    and management processes;

Attend meetings and briefings; providing advice and assistance;

Collect data to brief client on project issues and provide possible      resolutions;

Responsible for global safety on site and act as Safety Representative for AMEC;

Review and draft responses to contractor's correspondence as      required;

Prepare Summary Inspection Report of daily activities and other      reports as needed;

Approve technical submittals and respond to RFIs;

Document observations, non-compliances and corrective/preventive   actions;

Provide guidance and training to inspection staff; mentor and train     staff;

Assist in environmental compliance issues; 

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or   related discipline.

Currently registered (or eligible) with Order of Engineers of      Quebec (OIQ)

Minimum 12-15 years of relevant construction management experience; mining, earthworks or dam experience preferred;

Demonstrated problem solving ability and experience leading a team, construction management, ability to deal with contractors and contractor’s pay requests.

Strong communication skills (oral and written) in French;      bilingualism is an asset

Ability provide high quality reports and feedback to the management

Proficiency in MS Project and/or Primavera scheduling software is a     plus.
