As a skilled Mechanical Engineer, you will take a lead role in key modifications of existing mail and sortation systems and the development, modelling, simulation, optimization, design and installation of new mechanical systems used in Canada Post plants.
YOUR DUTIES as a Mechanical Engineering Officer will vary, but primarily you will:
Perform Engineering project management and oversee acquisition projects, involving performing assessments such as cost/benefit analyses and tender evaluations;
Write detailed technical requirements and specifications for equipment assessments, safety upgrades, design and installation of equipment modifications;
Evaluate engineering information submitted by consultants, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers, and assist Procurement with issuing contracts;
Provide engineering support for all plant mechanical systems and equipment, including developing programs, drawings and layouts as well as writing detailed technical requirements for the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, modification, relocation and improvement of complex mechanical equipment;
Perform detailed design and prepare technical reports for mail equipment optimization, including CADD drawings, layouts, design calculations, budget pricing, and specifications for equipment tenders and technical evaluations;
Assist in developing maintenance training courses for mail processing equipment systems;
Keep up-to-date on work-related methods, technologies and advances in the field of engineering;
Determine causes of failures and recommend design improvements.
You bring to the position of Mechanical Engineering Officer, a HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS that includes the following qualities.
A university degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Professional Engineer member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
4 to 7 years’ mechanical engineering experience, including analyzing technical problems, developing solutions, implementing technology and preparing specifications in an industrial setting.
Hands-on experience designing, developing and deploying material handling or automation technology.
Knowledge of Canadian Safety Code related to material handling and shipping systems.
Knowledge of the following fields: project engineering, material handling and sortation equipment design and enhancement, new equipment/technology evaluation, system performance, reliability analysis, RFPs, tender evaluation and scoring, supplier selection and contractor/job management, and the development, design and deployment of material handling systems for packaged goods, warehousing, transportation or the 3PL industry.
Knowledge in the areas of machinery and specialized equipment design, documentation and testing, automation and robotics, hydraulic and pneumatic controls and systems, machinery noise abatement and safeguarding.
Knowledge of the codes, rules and regulations in the design of machinery and material handling equipment, and technical project management.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of AutoCAD.
Results oriented and demonstrate initiative, autonomy and leadership.
Bilingualism (French and English
