The Environmental Technician will be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to respond to new losses, including residential and commercial fuel spills, and select chemical releases. If appropriately trained, may also be required to handle mold projects. The Environmental Technician will act as the primary point-person responsible for managing projects to completion; including assigning and supervising contractors as required, documenting contractor activities, monitoring costs, and preparing necessary reports in accordance with EFI Global guidelines. Clear communication with the contractors, clients and management are critical tasks that must be performed throughout the project.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responds promptly to new losses and assesses the site; some travel and over time may be involved
Successfully manages project activities to completion; including: assess, evaluate and determine extend of impacts identify potential recovery avenues for client retain and supervise sub-contractors control costs and develop cost effective approaches identify and resolve conflicts within the project
Reports to the clients and keeps the manager apprised of developments
Ensures that all protocols are followed and reports are completed in a timely manner
Identifies and resolves conflicts within the project
Monitors the efforts and billing of third-party workers, such as consultants, contractors, and other specialists.
Monitors WIP and delinquent reports
Carries out field sampling when required
Maintains safety procedures
Adheres to established methodologies for project management and EFI Global training and safety manuals
Additional duties as may be assigned
The successful candidate must meet the following education and experience requirements:
Post-secondary education in one of the earth sciences, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related discipline
Three or more years of experience in the environmental field
Solid reputation and high level of personal and professional credibility based upon a solid understanding of the environmental aspects of the Atlantic PIRI and CCME process
Willingness to work throughout Atlantic Canada on select projects
Ability to control a project from initial development stage to conclusion, independently
Previous experience in consulting and a solid background serving the needs of both private and public sector clients
High level of self-sufficiency and responsibility. Candidates need to have a strong work ethic, be motivated, have the ability to work independently and be a team player.
Strong leadership and business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining productive relationships with a client base. Such experience within a consulting organization is considered a strong asset.
Entrepreneurial orientation with strong understanding of the business development challenges of a consulting services provider
Strong report writing skills in the completion of detailed scientific reporting that can be written in a manner that can be understood by technical and non-technical people.
Demonstrate technical skills and ideally, advanced educational credentials
Strong experience liaising with government at all levels
