Our client is Canada’s largest supply chain solutions company, focused exclusively on the handling of temperature sensitive products.  They currently have 2200 dedicated employees working in a network of 33 technologically advanced facilities throughout Canada. 



This position reports directly to the Vice President, Engineering. The selected candidate will lead the transformation and oversee the operation and maintenance of three refrigerated warehouse facilities.  He/she will be responsible for:


Creating documented processes for operation, maintenance and health and safety;

Leading continuous improvement activities and managing capital project implementation;

Directing and supervising the plants’ operating engineers, maintenance personnel, janitors, contractors, and technicians in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; scheduling, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; conducting staff meetings; addressing complaints and resolving problems;

Promote and ensure compliance with Provincial Stationary Enginemen regulations, Electrical Safety environmental, health and safety, labour and all other applicable legislation and regulations;

Monitor and adjust plant / building equipment and systems to reduce energy / utility costs;

Develop, monitor, and maintain, an effective preventative maintenance and safety program for all refrigeration, building, material handling equipment, and racking;

Purchase supplies, parts, and materials to complete the task of plant/building maintenance.



Certificate of Qualification to operate a Group B2 refrigeration plant 900 kw) as a Chief Operator in Quebec:

Class A Refrigeration operators certificate (MMF Categorie appareil frigorifique, Classe A

Operating/Power engineer certificate with Refrigeration experience

Ability to obtain Quebec certification through an Equivalent Standardized Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification.

10-year experience operating an ammonia refrigeration plant with a minimum of 5-year experience as a chief operator would be considered a strong asset;

Experience working in a HACCP or GMP environment is also a strong asset;

Strong leadership and supervisory skills; Strong mechanical skills;

Knowledge of  Quebec Regulation respecting stationary enginemen, Environmental laws and regulation, Occupational Health and Safety Legislation; building codes, Elevator regulations, pressure vessels, electrical safety and related codes and regulations;

Previous experience with plant safety programs, setting up preventative maintenance programs, and controlling energy, repair, and maintenance budgets is essential;

Computer skills with Windows, Microsoft Office, E-mail, spreadsheets and project management software;

Bilingualism in English and French is a requirement.
